Henry Cavill & the Battle of Flowers

Last night members of my family and I were lucky enough to have tickets for the pre-screening of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Huge thanks to our local hero and heartthrob, Henry Cavill, who arranged for the film to be shown here a day before opening at cinemas across the country and raising money for Durrell. Henry *swoons* is Durrell's Global Ambassador - and a great ambassador for this gorgeous island of ours. Did I mention that Henry also looks remarkably like Sebastian Fielding, my hero in A Jersey Affair? (Sorry, I couldn't resist adding that bit...).

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is action-packed, full of style and humour and a great storyline, I loved it. It didn't hurt to spend the time watching the delicious Henry and his equally charismatic co-star Armie Hammer throughout the film. I just hope there's a sequel.

Yesterday was our annual Battle of Flowers here in Jersey. There's a long, exciting built up to 'Battle Day' and I've taken part, behind the scenes once and on a float in the arena twice over the years. It's always great fun and an incredible atmosphere. Tomorrow night the floats will parade once again, but this time with lights along Victoria Avenue.

Below is a picture of the last time I took part in the 'Battle'. Can you see where I am?

The Battle of Flowers was first staged in 1902 in celebration of a Royal Coronation and has grown every since to become of the largest floral carnivals in Europe. You can find out more and discover past photos from the official website here.
This year Jersey Battle of Flowers is supporting the work of the British Red Cross as its nominated charity.
There's usually a lot going on over here in the summer and it seems that this year is no different.

Bad Medicine by Caroline Fardig

BAD MEDICINE is the third book in THE LIZZIE HART MYSTERIES series.

What do a smokin’ hot detective, an evil chiropractor, and a couple of blind dates from hell have in common?
Lizzie has to wrangle them all in the third book of THE LIZZIE HART MYSTERIES series!
Book Description:
Lizzie Hart is overjoyed that six whole months have passed without a single murder in the sleepy town of Liberty.  It’s also been six months since Blake Morgan heartlessly dumped her, but she’s determined to get over him.  She’s slimmed down, ready to party, and injury-free, except for a little nagging pain in her ankle.  She’s also very single, but her friends are doing everything in their power to fix that—including setting her up on one disastrous blind date after another.
Lizzie’s reprieve is short-lived when an old friend of hers is found dead from an apparent drug overdose.  She wants to write it off as bad behavior after having seen the guy cheating on his wife with the new chiropractor in town.  However, when she sees that same chiropractor playing doctor with another man who ends up dead, she worries there could be murder afoot.

Doing her best to stay on the right side of the law this time, Lizzie decides to go straight to the police with her suspicions.  Unfortunately, the only cop available to speak with her is the stern yet hot new detective who has already given her a traffic ticket and a reprimand for public intoxication.  Not surprisingly, he brushes her off, leaving her no choice but to begin snooping on her own.  Lizzie soon learns she’s going to need help to get to the bottom of this mystery, but her best partner in crime solving, Blake, has turned into her worst enemy.

Can Lizzie and Blake find a way to work together to catch the killer…or will they kill each other first?

Books - Birth of a Paperback

Today I held a paperback copy of my third book, A Jersey Dreamboat, in my hands. This is an exciting moment to say the least!

After months of coming up with an idea > an outline > deciding on characters' names > where they'll live > plotting what you're going to do with them > getting the whole book down on paper and sending it off to my editor. Then comes the editing > more editing > more editing > proofreading > and on it goes until finally the book ready to be published. Holding the physical paperback in your hands is an enormous moment that makes the book finally seem real.

I'm lucky having a fantastic editor working with me, together with a team of professionals who are always ready to answer any queries I might have. Accent Press are an amazing publishing company to work with and next month it will be a year since I signed with them. The past eleven months have been busy, but fun and I've learnt an enormous amount about my own writing and the editing process. I've also enjoyed having the support of the excellent Accent Press team and my fellow Accent Press authors who I have to say are a fun, talented and very friendly bunch.

A Jersey Dreamboat is available to pre-order now. Here's the link.

“You can’t run away from commitment forever … “

Adam Hamilton-Shaw has more reason than most to avoid commitment. Living on a houseboat in the Severn Valley, his dream is to sail into the sunset – preferably with a woman waiting in every port. But lately, his life looks more like a road to destruction than an idyllic boat ride…

Would-be screenplay writer Sienna Meadows realises that everything about Adam spells trouble – but she can’t ignore the feeling that there is more to him than just his bad reputation. Nor can she ignore the intense physical attraction that exists between them.

And it just so happens that Adam sees Sienna as the kind of woman he could commit to. But can he change his damaging behaviour – or is the road to destruction a one-way street?
