Hump Day Blog Hop

One of the best aspects of being a writer is making friends with other writers.

I love supporting other writers and often have guests on this blog to help spread the word about their latest book. I believe that although family and friends are very supportive, the only people who truly understand the angst, crippling insecurities and shyness of someone who probably seems to be spending a lot of time promoting their book, is other writers.

You write something from the heart, spend months editing, tweaking, improving it as much as you can, then you release it hoping as many people as possible will read it. It must be very strange to people who don't write to understand how far a writer has to step out of their comfort zone to promote their book.

So, let's celebrate stepping out of our comfort zone and party!

  1. Yes! Let's party!

You're so right, Georgina. No one understands writers quite like other writers - which is why building and nurturing a community of writers is SO IMPORTANT.

I have grown personally and professionally so much since connecting with other writers both online and in my personal life. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without the advice, support, and encouragement from others. Such a gift.

Thanks so much for "getting social" with me on the Hump Day Blog Hop. The posts everyone is linking up for the Hop are awesome. I'm always amazed at the variety and quality of topics discussed during these hops.

Wednesday's my new favorite day of the week!

  2. When people ask if I'm in a writing group, I always talk about my online author connections instead. 'Chatting' with those in a similar genre, at a similar stage in our writing careers, is invaluable to me.

  3. You're so right about stepping out of that comfort zone. Sitting hunched over your computer tapping away at your latest creation is the easy part - it's sending your work out into the cold, cruel world that's tough. My comfort lies in knowing other people who are experiencing the same gut-wrenching emotions and are somehow getting through it anyway.

    1. I agree, Lori. When I first started blogging and then publishing my work it was so nervewracking, but it does get a little easier as time goes on.

  4. Oh, hell yeah! I hate promoting. So not me. But I have come to cherish the relationships I have built with other writers, and have learned so much from their generosity. You're right -- I think making those friendships is one of the best parts. :)

    1. Hi Shelly, thanks for commenting on my blog. I find it really helps me to know that other writers feel the same sense of awkwardness when promoting there work.

  6. Perfectly understandable. And, remember, all writers have to do is just open a vein... :)
